Make Your Own Oatmeal Face Paint

Face paint is a great way to top off a costume, as masks can limit visibility and be just plain inconvenient. Face paint, however, can also be damaging to sensitive skin. Making and wearing your own oatmeal-based face paint will have your costume looking great while you soften your skin at the same time.

Things You'll Need

  • Oatmeal
  • Blender/food processor/coffee grinder
  • Corn starch
  • Water
  • Food coloring

Instructions

    • 1

Grind 1/4 cup of oatmeal into a fine flour using a food processor or coffee grinder. You will end up with about 25% less oatmeal flour than you had oatmeal.

    • 2

In a large bowl, mix 3 tbsp. corn starch with 1 tbsp. ground oatmeal. Slowly stir in the ¾ cup of Karo syrup and ¼ cup of water until the mixture is smooth.

    • 3

Apportion your mixture into separate containers or paper cups. Put a different food color in each cup and mix it thoroughly. For white paint, do not add food coloring.

    • 4

Paint your face. The paint you have made will be very much like clown makeup, albeit edible and safer for your skin. You should be able to make any number of designs with it.

Tips & Warnings

  • When it is time to remove the face paint, take it off with hot water and a washcloth. It should leave your skin soft and clean.

  • Do not use too much food coloring, as it can temporarily stain your skin.
