How to Survive an Earthquake While Being Outside
Imagine that you are taking a walk, enjoying the serenity of the early morning when the ground begins to shake noticeably and the tremors vibrate into your bones. You look around and the buildings on both sides of the street are wobbling as well. Here is how to survive an earthquare when you're outside.

1
Resist the temptation to try to outrun the earthquake. It can't be done and you need to stay calm and keep a level head.
-
2
Put as much distance as possible between you and any buildings or other structures. Open spaces are the key to survival in an earthquake, so get to the nearest one as quickly as possible.
-
-
3
Steer absolutely clear of telephone poles and electricity wires.
-
4
Wait in a wide open space for the earthquake to pass. Even if you think it's over, wait for several minutes in case of an aftershock.
-
5
Use caution as you return home. Avoid fallen electric pylons and wires and look out for cracks and unevenness in the ground.

Tips & Warnings
If you are in a rural setting, such as in the mountains, try to find open space away from trees. In addition, watch out for landslides or avalanches.
Never attempt to move an electric cable that has fallen during an earthquake.
