Step 1
Measure your oven. If you rush out and buy a pizza stone before taking measurements, it may not fit in your oven. This is especially true if you have a small apartment-sized oven. Open the oven door and measure the width and depth. This will save you from having to make a trip back to the store.
-
Step 2
Purchase the biggest one possible. It isn't just for pizza. You can also use it to bake bread. Buying the largest stone that will fit in your oven allows you to get more use out of it.
-
Step 3
Remember that a square stone offers more space. A pizza stone doesn't have to be round. In fact, a square tile is superior because it allows for more baking space.
-
Step 4
Consider additional purchases. Do you plan on buying a pizza peel to remove items from your stone? If not, you should consider buying a stone that comes with a rack. The stone fits inside the rack and allows you to easily remove your pizza from the oven. The handles make it easy to transport the stone to the table, which means less dishes for you to wash.

Step 5
Check reviews. Reviews help prevent you from making a bad purchase. Read the reviews and make sure you're not about to purchase an item that will quickly crack in your oven. It doesn't matter how much the item costs. You will find that some inexpensive stones are high quality, while some expensive ones break easily.
