1
First you've got to figure out which way to transfer your old Quicken data file to your new computer. Either use Quicken's online data service (which may involve a fee) to upload your data file from the old computer and download it on to the new one, or determine which form of external media to use to transfer the file, such as a CD-R, DVD-R, USB flash drive or external hard drive (see Resources below).
-
2
Once you've decided which transfer method will work best between your two systems, open Quicken on the old system and hit "CTRL+B" to do a backup of your data file.
-
3
Check the "online" option if you plan to upload your data file and download it on the new system and follow the prompts.
-
4
Check on "my computer" if you plan to use external media. Insert the drive or disc, wait for your system to recognize it, and then click the "Browse" button and navigate to the drive and folder where you wish to save the data file for transfer. Click "open" and then click "OK" on the Quicken dialog.
-
5
Turn on your new system and load Quicken 2008 onto the system, using either the program disk, pre-installed software or by downloading from the Quicken website (see Resources below).
-
6
During installation, a prompt will ask if you want to restore your backed up data. Click yes, and select the appropriate option for restoring either online backup or a file from a disc or other computer. Follow the prompts and you'll be able to pick up where you left off on your new system in a few seconds.
