How to Create a Logo for Your Business
How people look at you and your small business, and whether or not they dismiss you as a novice or put their trust in you and your business, depends largely on the identity you create for your business and the services or products you offer. This identity starts with a quality business logo. The following steps will help you make or find that logo and identity.

1
Decide how much money you have to spend, and what resources you already have.
-
2
Access designcontest.com if you simply want someone to create the logo for you. Here, for a reasonable fee, you can submit your ideas and a little bit about your company in a general post. Several professional artists then work on your idea, submitting final projects for your approval. They will tweak as you desire until you choose one, at which point the winner takes part of your fee (see Resources below).
-
-
3
Access Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator if you want to create your own, or find someone with the Adobe Creative Suite (CS3) who will let you use it.
-
4
Design, on paper, several of your ideas, trying to incorporate any key words or images. For instance, if your company is Nobility Publishing, perhaps you will want to use a crown, a book or a pen.
-
5
Pick an image and type the name of your business on top of it. If it doesn't look right, move the font to the top, bottom, side or angle it. Try different sizes, too.
-
6
Pick a font style, trying to find one that matches the tone established by your company name or mission statement.
-
7
Add you catch phase to the bottom, top or off to the side.
-
8
Come up with several variations, asking people close to you and strangers which one they prefer, what it says to them and why. You will be surprised what you will learn about the subtle and almost subliminal messages that a good logo can say.

9
Access Vistaprint.com or gotprint.com and upload your logo to make a business card (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
Keep it simple. Do not over think it. You want your logo to be memorable, not crowded with words and details.
If you are making your own logo, make sure that you are familiar with Adobe or know someone who is. Without knowledge or sufficient practice, what looks good to you may be disastrous to a company just starting out.
