    How to Remove Hair

  1. Step 1

Look into the different methods of hair removal. There are several ways to remove hair from the body. Some of the methods can be quite painful while other methods are relatively pain free. Before you decide which hair removal method is best for you, consider the sensitivity level of your skin as well as your personal threshold for pain.

  2. Step 2

Buy the supplies you need. Depending on the method of hair removal you choose you will need to purchase shaving cream or gel, razors, tweezers, hair clippers, body wax and wax strips, depilatory creams or pay to have the hair removed by laser, electrolysis or threading.

  3. Step 3

Decide if you want the hair removal to be permanent, temporary, or long term. If you want something quick and easy, shaving, tweezing, hair clippers or depilatory creams might be the best options. For hair removal that last a few weeks or more, threading or waxing are options to consider. For long term or permanent hair removal, consider laser hair removal or electrolysis.

  4. Step 4

Clean the area where the hair is to be removed prior to removing any hair. Once the area is clean, if you’re removing the hair on your own you can proceed with the removal method of your choice. For shaving, lather the area with shaving cream or gel. Use a sharp razor to shave the hair off. Be sure to shave in the direction of hair growth to prevent any ingrown hairs. If you tweeze, use the tweezers to pluck the hairs you wish to remove. Hair clippers can be used to trim hair from the head or other areas but should be used with care. Be sure you have them on the right setting for the length of hair that you have. If using a depilatory cream, follow the directions on the container which tells you how long to leave the cream on before wiping it off. Be careful not to leave depilatory creams on too long because they can burn or irritate the skin.

  5. Step 5

Consult a professional for hair removal techniques such as laser hair removal, electrolysis and threading. It’s best to have a professional remove the hair with these methods to ensure that it’s done correctly. Laser hair removal and electrolysis can be quite expensive. To be a candidate for laser hair removal, the hair to be removed must be darker than the surrounding skin. Both laser hair removal and electrolysis may require multiple sessions to remove all of the hair and achieve desired results.

Tips & Warnings
  • Although waxing can be done at home, it might be a good idea to go to a professional so you don’t accidentally rip your skin along with the hair.
  • If you tend to get ingrown hairs or razor bumps, look for products that are made specifically for preventing or minimizing these effects.
