The Ukulele is a beautiful instrument that can be used to play many different genres of music. From Hawaiian to classical, reggae to country, it can be used to play just about any song. Most chords that are played on a guitar can be played on a ukulele. The B7 chord most commonly follows the B chord when playing music in the key of B. However it is also frequently used in the key of E. In Hawaiian music, a vamp of 3 chords is used as an intro or played in between verses. Using the B7 in the key of E, the vamp sequence would be F7, B7, E. In the key of A, the B7 is first chord in the vamp sequence with the E7 and A chords following after it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Sit or stand in a comfortable but upright position. Place the body of the ukulele near the stomach area by holding it over the front with the right arm. Put the right hand under the center of the ukulele body.
Step2
Hold the neck of the ukulele between the left index finger and thumb without touching the left palm.
Step3
Move the left index finger between the string spacer and the first fret. Hold down all four strings between the string spacer and fret firmly.
Step4
With the middle finger, hold down the C string only between the first and second fret. The C string is the second from the top. Do not let the middle finger touch the frets. It will change the sound of the chord.
Step5
Press down the fingers on the assigned strings only and strum with the right hand. Strumming should be done near the center of the ukulele body gently with the finger nails, finger tips or a pick.

Tips & Warnings

  • The ukulele strings from top to bottom are assigned G, C, E, and A.
  • The frets are the metal strips that are located on the neck of the ukulele.
  • Look at the left hand in the mirror while holding the chord to confirm that the frets are not being touched.
  • Sitting with the ukulele in the lap may be easier as it can rest on the legs rather than using upper body strength.
