Purchase a replacement toner cartridge. The toner cartridge in your printer should have some identifying information, such as a part number, that you can use to identify the type of toner cartridge you need. As your toner begins to run low, some printers will send a message to your computer that includes the part number for the replacement.
Remove the old toner cartridge. You might need to snap the toner cartridge out of place. Follow the instructions provided with your printer if you have difficulty removing the old toner cartridge.
Take the new toner cartridge out of its wrapper. Rock the toner cartridge back and forth a few times. Remove the protective cover.
Close the printer cover. If you have installed the toner cartridge correctly, then the printer cover should close easily.
