Step 1
When you know that you are going to have a litter of puppies, sit down with your family and write up a survey that you can use to give to potential puppy owners. If potential owners don't want to take a survey, they shouldn't be worth giving your precious puppies to.
-
Step 2
Add questions to the survey that reflect how you would like potential owners to be. If it is important to you that the puppy have training, be sure you ask how they plan to train the puppy. If you want the puppy to be around children or other animals, be sure to ask them about those things. You can ask as many questions as you would like.
-
Step 3
Print out the survey to give to interested parties. Also have a version online that you can email to them.
-
Step 1
When a litter is born or you know that you are going to be expecting one, start to advertise. if you have a website, do it there. If not, you can use the local paper, posters, or another other place online or off line to advertise.
-
Step 2
Give the survey to anyone who inquires about your puppies. Let them know that this is an important step in adopting your puppies.
-
Step 3
When you get surveys back, sit down and read through them with your families. If there is something about the answers the family gives that doesn't sit well with you, discard that survey.
-
Step 4
When you have a group of surveys that you have approved, create a waiting list.
-
Step 1
Ask the people who are on your waiting list to meet with you for an interview. They might want to see the mother and father dog, and you should try to get to know them a little bit better. If this is done after the puppies are born, they can see the dogs and let you know if they are still interested.
-
Step 2
Rank the people on the waiting list in order of who you like the most and who you feel the most confident about.
-
Step 3
Offer the top people on the list the chance to adopt your puppies.
-
Step 4
Have them come to your home and choose the puppy that they would like.
