How to Set Up An Apache Pop-Up Camper

Camping is fun and exciting. Setting up camp in the campgrounds can be very easy if you follow a few steps to make things easier. The campgrounds usually have the sites with water and electric hookups. When planning a camping trip with a pop up camper, ask for a site that has the hookups. Have the kids help with getting things set up by collecting firewood and stacking it in a designated place. This will allow the adults to set up the camper and get everything ready for living.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the set up by placing the leveling jacks on flat ground. Use blocks of wood under the jacks so the jack will not sink into the dirt. The camper must be level for the inside to be comfortable to live in. Place one jack on each side of the camper in the front and one on each side in the back. Raise or lower the jacks until the level shows that the camper is level. Chalk the tires so the camper will not roll. The side you chalk the tires on will depend on the incline of the campsite.

    • 2

Place the jacks and then disconnect the camper from the car's trailer hitch. Pull the car ahead so it is out of the way of the crank for raising the top of the camper.

    • 3

Crank the top of the camper up. Some campers have an electric crank, but most are done by hand. It will take about ten minutes to crank up the top. Once the top is up, roll up the window flats to allow air into the camper. Unroll the outdoor canopy if one is attached.

    • 4

Connect the water and electric hookups to the camper. After the connection is complete, check the inside of the camper to make sure the water is working as well as the electricity.

    • 5

Enter the camper and set up the inside the way you need it. This includes making beds, plugging in appliances to electrical outlets and getting ready to bring in clothes and food. If there is an indoor shower or outdoor shower, set this up and hang the curtain.

Unload the car. Place food in the cabinets and hang up clothes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep spare parts for the crank and the canvas top in a safe place in cases something is in need of repair.

  • Make sure that the camper top is free from any mold. If there is mold, clean it up right away with soap and water.

  • Never park and set up a camper on a steep incline.
