Your wedding is your special day. However, it can become a very expensive ordeal, and you can start your union out in the red. In the current economic environment, there is never a more inportant time to be creative and cut costs where you can. Making your own wedding announcements is one of those things.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Card Stock (your color)
  • Ribbon (your color)
  • Fonts and printer (or access to a print shop)
  • Envelopes
  • Vellum
  • Engagement picture

Making a Personal Invitiation even more Personal

Step1
Go to your local craft or stationary store and pick out your card stock of choice. If they don't have the color to match your colors, they will probably have a way of ordering it.
Step2
Determine the size of your announcement. There are all different sizes out there but a 4 by 6 inch card seems standard.
Step3
Have the stationary store cut the card stock for you. Or, if you like, you can cut it yourself at home, but make sure you have a nice and sharp paper cutter and don't try to cut too many at once or the edges can become rough and uneven.
Step4
Purchase sheets of vellum to match at the stationary store. This is a somewhat see-through paper (usually in soft colors).
Step5
Cut the vellum to the same dimensions as your card stock.
Step6
Develop the roll of engagement pictures to the same dimensions as the stock and vellum or smaller.
Step7
Place a sheet of card stock followed by your picture and a sheet of vellum together and punch a hole in the top left corner. This is where you will tie them together with ribbon.
Step8
Write the words to your announcement then pick a font from Word or the Adobe Creative Suite to match the tone you want (fun, elegant, royal, romantic, serious) If you do not have any of these programs, your local print shop should, and they can help you create the announcement part.
Step9
Print the words of the announcement onto your card stock. To make this go faster, you can choose to print columns onto the whole card stock prior to cutting it.
Step10
Tie the card stock followed by the picture on top and then the vellum with the ribbon of your color.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make your announcement stand out by printing personal names on the vellum.
  • Make sure you test the printing process first. It can be a costly mistake to start printing only to realize your text does not match up with the paper.
