Things You'll Need:
- Compound miter saw
- Test cutting material
- Materials to cut
-
Step 1
Set the fence to the desired cut angle. Most compound miter saws have a semicircular table which is gradated in degrees. You can swing the table and thus change the angle at which the blade cuts into a piece of wood that is held against the fence. Move the fence to the desired cut angle.
-
Step 2
Lock down the angle. Most compound miter saws have a lever or a screw knob which can lock down the angle, thus preventing the fence from shifting during the cut.
-
Step 3
Adjust the tilt of the saw. Most compound miter saws have a knob at the rear which allows the body of the saw to be titled from side to side. This knob is usually gradated in degrees, much like the table. Tilt the body of the saw to the desired angle and lock in place.
-
Step 4
Place a piece of scrap material on the saw. The best way to check your cut angles is to perform a test cut. Put on your safety goggles, make sure your hands are clear of the cutting area, and let the saw rip.
-
Step 5
Check the test piece for proper fitting. Make adjustments as necessary. Once the test piece has the proper bevel, load the real material on the cutting stand and get to work.
