How to Plan an Inexpensive Wedding

Save

A wedding is one of the most important days of your life. You want everything to be just perfect and look nice, but you don’t have thousands to spend. There are ways to plan an inexpensive wedding.

Things You'll Need

  • Time
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Someone to help
  • Phone
  • Find a location. One of the biggest expenses for a wedding is the venue. An easy way to decrease this expense is by having an outdoor wedding. Many parks offer pavilions and shelters for weddings at inexpensive prices. Some will even allow weddings for free as long as you clean everything up afterwards. Call your local parks and recreation department to find out the details.

  • Rent some chairs. Since most weddings last no longer than an hour, you only need to provide enough chairs for elderly or disabled guests. Call around to local auctions, furniture rental agencies, and VFW’s to see about renting chairs for your wedding.

  • Get your supplies. Furniture rental stores sometimes carry candle and flower arrangement holders and arches also. Another idea is to check with your local party stores and Hobby Lobby’s for wedding supplies.

  • Make your invitations. Hobby Lobby, Garden Ridge, and other comparable stores are great places to find inexpensive wedding invitations, flowers, and even eating utensils. Using wedding invitations that you print up yourself on your computer is a great way to save money on the wedding. You will want to check with a few different stores before making your purchases. Stores are always having sales and, by taking your time and going to more than one place, you can save money.

  • Don’t pay for decorating. You and your family can do the decorating for the wedding by yourselves. All of the above mentioned stores have ribbon, lace, greenery, and flowers to make centerpieces and decorations with. There is no need for extravagant centerpieces or overdone bows taking up every available space. You can have an elegant wedding by using just the right amount of decorations. Placing a few bows and flowers around the pavilion or gazebo, and tying ribbon around the chair backs, is plenty.

  • Buy your dress. There is no need to pay a fortune for a wedding dress. You can go to stores such as David’s Bridal and find a very nice dress that isn't too expensive. If you take your time, you can even catch the $99 sale at David’s Bridal. Go to other places and check as well. Local bridal shops have great deals on wedding dresses. Even department stores have dresses suitable for weddings, especially during prom season. Think outside the box and you can have a wonderful wedding that won’t break the bank.
