How to Make a Wooden Box

Ranking up there next to a pocket on shirt, a wooden box is just as handy. Think of all the uses around the house: storage, platforms for plants, coverings for plumbing, and flower planters. Stack a bunch of them together and you have an entertainment center. Wooden boxes come in all shapes and sizes.

Things You'll Need

• (1) 8 foot 1-by-12 inch lumber
• Circulating saw
• Measuring tape
• Pencil
• Square
• Screw gun
• 1 ¼ drywall screws
• Glue

Instructions

1. Cut 2 pieces of the 1-by-12 inch lumber exactly 13 ¼ inches in length.

2. Cut 3 pieces of the 1-by-12 inch lumber exactly 11 ¾ inches in length.

3. Place a bead of glue on the edge of one of the 11 ¾ inch pieces and butt it up to the 13 ¾ inch piece and secure them together with the 1 ¼ inch drywall screws.

4. Repeat Step 3 for the remaining side pieces. Two of the sides and the bottom of the box are the same length and width.

5. Slip the bottom of the box in place with glue on the edges. Secure it into place with the 1 ¼ inch drywall screws.

Tips & Warnings

• Always wear safety glasses.

• Use plenty of glue. Excess can be cleaned off with a damp cloth after pieces are joined.

• Paint or stain the box.

• Cut a lid for the box securing it with hinges.

• Use extreme caution when operating a circulating saw as there is a potential for serious injury.
