Organic means that a product is made without synthetic pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, hormones, antibiotics, fertilizers or other synthetic or toxic substances. When choosing skincare products and opting for more natural products, stick with a few of these tips and you'll be on your way to treating yourself and your skin naturally. Read on to learn how to choose organic skincare products.

Things You'll Need:

  • Some knowledge of organic products
  1. Step 1

Search for products that are paraben-free and come in paraben-free plastic containers or bottles.

  2. Step 2

Look for the organic seal, a USDA approved logo. See if the product is 100 percent organic, since "organic" labeling has three levels (100 percent, 95 percent and 70 percent). The third category (70 percent) is usually noted as "made with organic ingredients" and these are very common.

  3. Step 3

Read the labels. If you can't pronounce half of the ingredients, this product is probably not the best option. Look for natural oils or scents such a lavender, grapefruit or honey.

  4. Step 4

Smell the product. Scent is what turns you on (or off) to a product. If it is organic, but it doesn't please your senses, don't purchase it. The product will likely go to waste.

Tips & Warnings
  • La Roche-Posay and Pevonia are two brands that have very few ingredients, and are great options for those seeking more natural cleansers and body washes.
  • Ask questions before purchasing a product (online via phone or in a store).
  • Just because a product is labeled "organic" doesn't mean it is safe to use.
  • Make sure to know the percentage of organic ingredients (100 percent, 95 percent or 70 percent) before purchasing.
