Make and send invitations: Cut card stock in shapes of bread slices. Cut pink and green “ham” and “lettuce” pieces to fit inside the “sandwiches.” On the pink sheet, write “You Are Invited to a Sandwich Party.” On the green sheet, write the time, place, and date—along with a number for the RSVP. Insert into brown envelopes and mail.

Plan a Sandwich Game: Game #1: Sandwich Memory Game. Seat guests in a circle and have the first player say, “I made a super sandwich and on it I put artichokes (or any food item starting with the letter “A”). The next player says “I made a super sandwich and on it I put artichokes and bologna.” The game continues with guests dropping out as they forget the previous ingredients or are unable to come up with an appropriate item as you go through the alphabet. Players who have dropped out serve as referees.

Plan Sandwich Game #2: Peanut Butter and Jelly Relay: Before the party, on 40 large (4” x 6”) index cards, write out two cards for each of the letters in the words “Peanut Butter and Jelly.” Before the party, shuffle the cards and put them in a separate area (basement, back yard, etc.) Divide the players into two teams. Each team will line up and send one player out at a time to find a letter in the words “peanut butter and jelly” and bring it back to the team. The first team to assemble in order all of the letters is the winner.

Plan Sandwich Signs: Note: You may first have to explain to younger guests how sandwich signs are used as movable advertisements. Place guests in pairs. Give each guest a sheet of white poster board, which has been cut in half lengthwise. Attach the two sheets to each other by stapling them together with shoulder straps made from the ribbon. Each guest must make a sandwich sign “advertising” his partner; the partner must then wear and model the sign. Remember to take photos to distribute after the party.
