Things You'll Need:
- Static charged dust cloth
- Vacuum cleaner with hose attachment
- Mild dish soap
- Soft scrub brush
-
Step 1
Assess the dust level that has accumulated on your metal window blinds. If your blinds are used on windows that are often open to let in air from the outdoors they are likely very dusty. However, dust quickly accumulates on blinds used to cover windows that are never open so be sure to check yours to get an idea of how much cleaning you'll be doing to restore them to a dust-free state.
-
Step 2
Decide on your cleaning approach based on the dust level on your metal window blinds. A light layer of dust can be removed with the vacuum cleaner and a dust cloth. A heavier layer of dust will require the removal of the window blinds from their brackets after an initial vacuuming and dusting.
-
Step 3
Clean a light layer of dust from your metal window blinds with a two-step approach. First, remove as much dust as possible with the hose attachment on your vacuum cleaner. You will find this easiest to do when the window blinds are closed. Second, after vacuuming the dust from the blinds, use a static charged dust cloth to remove any remaining dust. Gently rub the cloth across each piece of the blind to remove the dust. If there is no more visible dust, no further cleaning is needed. If dust remains, you'll have a bit more work to do.
-
Step 4
Remove the metal window blinds from their brackets if they are still dirty after your initial cleaning. Take them to the bathtub one at a time. Spread the window blind across the bottom of the tub. Use mild dish soap and a soft brush to scrub the blinds. Turn the shower on to rinse the dust and soap from the blinds. Be sure to rinse well.
-
Step 5
Dry the blinds well before returning them to the window. Use an absorbent towel to remove all water and to rub away any water spots. Once they are dry you can return them to the window.
