Determine if you want to mount your roman blind on the inside of the window (jamb to jamb) or on the outside (bracket to bracket). If you are doing an inside mount, you will need to determine the width and length size of the roman blind that you need to purchase. Measure the inside of your window in three places; top, middle and bottom. Use the smallest width to determine the width of your shade. Choose the smallest width, so your shade can operate smoothly as you raise and lower it. Measure the longest part of the window, to determine the length of your blind. If you are doing an outside mount, which is the easiest of the two mounting options. You will need to determine where you want your blind to begin at the top of your window and how far beyond the window you want it on both sides. Many folks are looking to put up shades to keep the sun from coming in and want to cover what is called the "light strike." The "light strike" is the part of the day when the sun's rays will show through the sides of the roman blind.

For an inside mount, the roman blind, should not make contact with the top of the window frame, or any other obstruction when raised and lowered. Before installing the brackets, position the mount brackets inside the window frame. The brackets need to be aligned and level with one another. When the blind is installed it should move freely between the brackets.

Before installing the brackets, position the mount brackets outside the window frame, clearing all obstructions. The brackets need to be aligned and level with one another. When the blind is installed it should move freely between the brackets, be sure to allow 1/8" of additional space between the brackets, so the mechanism will rotate freely.
