The Leapster L-Max handheld console is a great learning tool for children. If you have one of these machines, but it doesn’t display an image on the screen, here are a few steps you can follow to try to get it running again.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • The Leapfrog customer-support number (800-701-LEAP)
  1. Step 1

Check the batteries on the console. If they are low, the console may not power on. This seems pretty obvious; however, batteries that are low but not quite dead can sometimes make your console act in a way that low batteries usually wouldn’t.

  2. Step 2

Check the video cord on the back of the console. This is the cord with the red, white, and yellow jacks that plug into the front of the TV. The yellow part of the cord is the video cord, so make sure you have it plugged into the yellow input jack on the front of the TV. The other end of the cord should be firmly plugged into the Leapster console. if the cord is loose, it may not display anything on the screen.

  3. Step 3

Change channels on the TV. The TV will usually need to be set to one of the input channels; however this can vary from one set to another. Try flipping through all of the input channels to see if you can get a picture.

  4. Step 4

Adjust the brightness on the TV. Sometimes, one of the children might have adjusted the brightness all the way down, making it look as if the TV doesn’t have a picture.

  5. Step 5

Hook up the Leapster to a different TV. If the Leapster still doesn’t work, you know the fault is with the console.

  6. Step 6

If the steps 1 through 5 do not work, your best bet is to call Leapster customer support. The number can be found in the "Things You'll Need" section.
