How to Treat Colic With Catnip

How to Treat Colic With Catnip thumbnail
There are few things more frustrating for a devoted parent than a baby that--for some mysterious reason--cannot be comforted.

When a baby is colicky, everyone in the immediate area suffers. An unhappy baby not only deprives everyone of sleep, they also create frustration and depression in their parents and relatives who often cannot figure out what will calm them. As the baby is awake longer and longer, everyone--including the infant--will become increasingly irritable from lack of sleep, which just makes the whole cycle worse. Fortunately, you can treat a colicky baby with a soothing tea that will help them relax and sleep even if they are so irritable that it seems nothing will soothe them. In this article, we will discuss how to treat colic with a catnip tea to help everyone finally get some rest.

  1. How to Treat Catnip With Colic

    • 1

Boil a cup of water in the glass measuring cup. The easiest way to do this is to microwave the water on high for 2 minutes.

    • 2

Place the catnip and the chamomile tea in the tea ball. This will prevent the herbs from mixing in with the tea itself.

    • 3
Catnip and chamomile can both be grown in any herb garden. If you wish to use fresh herbs, use a quarter of a cup instead of 1/4 a tablespoon.

Steep the catnip and chamomile for 10 minutes. This will create a soothing tea for your baby. The aroma and the taste will actually sooth you too if you wish to have a cup yourself.

    • 4

Mix 1/2 a cup of water and 1/2 a cup of the tea in the bottle. Shake it thoroughly to blend it together.

    • 5

Cool the tea to room temperature. You and your baby can benefit from the soothing nature of this infusion and hopefully all get some good rest.
