A personalized birthday card can really make the occasion special

Birthday cards are always fun to receive, but they are even more special if they are handmade. With just a few craft supplies and some creativity, you can create a work of art that can double as a card and a gift!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Heavy paper
  • Markers, crayons, or colored pencils
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Photos, glitter, tissue paper, or other decorative accessories
  1. Step 1

Decide on a theme, or saying, that you want to incorporate into the card. It should be something meaningful to the recipient. An inside joke, favorite thing or amazing photo could be a good starting point to work from.

  2. Step 2

Fold a piece of heavy paper either in half or into quarters, depending on how large you want the card to be. If you ilke, you can use scrap-booking scissors to make a decorative edge on the card, making it a little fancier.

  3. Step 3

Decide on a message to write on the front, and on the inside. You don't have to have writing on both sides. You may prefer to have a picture on the front and a message on the inside. Use the markers to write the message on the inside or, if you want to make it fancier, you can use a nice calligraphy pen to do the writing with.

  4. Step 4

Draw or glue a picture or photo onto the front of the card. This will set the theme of the card and be the first thing the recipient sees when she opens it, so make sure it's good (and appropriate).

  5. Step 5

Decorate the card as you see fit. You can put glitter, stickers, confetti, or photos on the card to make it more personalized. If you decide to glue anything to the card, make sure you allow ample time for the card to dry before putting it into the envelope because the glue may stick to the inside of the envelope.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be creative. Make the birthday card something special and meaningful to the person who will be receiving it.
  • Take your time. Put thought and effort into the card you create.
  • Put something extra into the card. You could slip a little gift inside the card, such as a lottery ticket or a fun photo.
