How to Make Holiday Cookie Cutters
When you think of the holidays you think of good times and lots of food. Home made food is common, as are home made cookies. Cookies are a fun project for a family to make together. You can get creative with your cookies by making your own holiday shape cookie cutters. Then you can decorate the cookies with icing and various other candies based on the design you choose.
Things You'll Need
- Newspaper
- Piece of paper and a pencil
- Pair of shears
- Metal ribbon
- String

Instructions

1
Completely cover the workspace area so you don't scratch it when you begin working with the metal.
-
2
Draw the design on a sheet of paper with a pencil. For Christmas, you may want to design a tree shape, star, or cross. For Easter draw an egg, bunny, or piece of candy. Draw whichever design you want that fits the holiday you are celebrating.

3
Take a piece of string and carefully go around all the edges of the design. When it gets back to the top cut it off.
-
4
Take the piece of string and lay it up against the metal ribbon. Cut the metal ribbon the exact same size as the string. This is how much metal you need to make the cookie cutter.
-
5
Bend the metal in to the shape of the design. You may need to create corners, which can be done by using the side of a counter top or you can just bend the pieces with needle nose pliers. If you are creating a circle you can bend the metal around a circular object in your house.
-
6
Secure the two edges that come together with 3M permanent double sided tape. Make sure the edges overlap a bit.
-
7
Clamp the edges together where the tape is for 72 hours. You can use the simple plastic clamps found in craft stores. They are extremely cheap and work just as well as any metal clamp.
-

Use the new holiday cookie cutter to make some cookies.

Tips & Warnings
Wash the metal ribbon strip before you begin bending it. There is an oil coating that may make the double sided tape not stick.
Always wash the cookie cutter by hand.
Be careful you don't cut yourself. The metal is sharp. You can file it down if you want to.
