Attaching Zinc Frame

A zinc frame on stained glass panels is essential for structure and rigidity. The zinc frame is added once the design is cut, foiled and soldered.

Instructions

Step 1

Measure the length of zinc came needed for each side.
Step 2

Decide if you want straight cuts or mitred cuts for the corners.
Step 3

Metal Cut-off Saw

Use a came saw or a fine-tooth hacksaw to cut the zinc came to the angle you need. You might want to cut pieces long then re-cut once you dry fit the came to the actual piece.
Step 4

Once you have all the zinc came cut, insert the glass into the came channels using pins.
Step 5

Flux the corners of the came frame and all the solder seams that touch the frame.
Step 6

Solder each joint in the frame and all adjacent solder seams.
Step 7

Once, the first side is done, carefully turn the piece over and repeat the same process on that side.
Step 8

Use flux remover to clean your stained glass piece.
Step 9
