Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Gas lawn mower: If you have a large area of grass to cut, this is probably your best bet. Gas is the least environmentally friendly option and is also the most expensive one. This option for those with an acre of land or more because it will be difficult to use the other options.
Step2
Electric lawn mower: An electric mower is a very good option for those with less than 1/4 an acre of land. The reason being, if you get a rechargeable manual mower, the battery will only last so long. If you purchase a corded model, you will need to be somewhat close to the outlet. A rechargeable mower will cost approximately $350 depending on the make and model.
Step3
Manual push mower: If you have a small lawn, this lawn mower will save you money in the long run. A good push mower is going to cost about $200. If you are concerned about your footprint on the planet, this is a very good option. 10% of greenhouse emissions created in the United States is caused by landscaping equipment. Additionally, cutting your lawn with one of these mowers is great exercise for you!

on 7/25/2008 I agree with lawnbott's comment, this article definitely needs info on the 4th robotic mower option. After having purchased one myself (Husqvarna automower) I can definitely recommend it. I now mow the lawn 3 times a week. I don't have any pets and my kids stay away from it since I have explained to them that there are rotating razor blades under the innocent looking hood.

on 7/21/2008 My only fear about a lawnbot is that it may be dangerous with children and animals around even with its obstacle detector. Sounds like a great invention though!

on 7/20/2008 Great info, but there's a missing 4th option: Robotic Lawn mowers. We bought one earlier this year and I'm floored. This is a lifesaver. Now I have time to do other yard chose while my Lawnbott mows the lawn. You can read about them at http://www.lawnbotts.com and reviews at www.lawnbottreview.com
