Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- gardening gloves, a wagon,an open mind and a general idea of what stones would best match your garden's size, shape and spirit.
Step1
Wear good trekking shoes or boots and protect yourself with bug repellant.
Step2
Toting a wagon (some of these stones are dense and heavy), choose those which either have:
1.interesting, edgy shapes
2.are striped with rock varieties of other stones within them
3.may be of a rounded nature that would "just fit" with a clump of Autumn Joy.
Step3
Trowel out a V shaped area where the stone fits + look to enhance, not overwhelm the plant.,
Step4
Don't be surprised next spring, that the rocks have "settled. Did them out, build up clay soil beneath them, until you get the look you like.

on 8/6/2008 I love the look of a stone border. I put a bed of small stones down first and put the larger stones on that. It keeps them from settling so much and shows them off.

on 6/27/2008 Beautiful picture! A garden without edging is like a cake without icing. This is a great article for how to add inexpensive edging. Thanks so much!
