Everyone that uses bar soap has their own way of dealing with those little slivers that remain when the bar is about to run out. Some throw them away, others use them until they are completely gone, and a lucky few come up with more creative and useful solutions for them. If you're not sure how to put them to use, read on.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A sliver of bar soap
  • A sponge
  • A sharp serrated knife
  1. Step 1

Get out your sponge and serrated knife. Cut into the side of the sponge, along the long side, to create a pocket that runs almost the entire length of the sponge and almost all the way through to the opposite side. Think of it like turning a sponge into a wallet. If the sponge is too stiff to cut into when it's dry, dampen it slightly to make it easier.

  2. Step 2

Slide one or more slivers of bar soap into the sponge.

  3. Step 3

Use the dampened sponge as an all-purpose cleaning tool until the sliver is used up. It's great for everything from scrubbing sinks and counters to washing your car. Just dampen, squeeze, lather and scrub. When the sliver is used up, keep your cut sponge on hand until you've worked your next bar of bath soap to an unusable sliver.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're prone to saving the small bars of soap that you get at hotels, you can use those in the same way.
  • Be very careful when cutting the pocket into the sponge, particularly if you dampen the sponge before cutting.
