Step 1
Plan your mini golf course on paper before you begin creating it in your backyard. This is an especially useful tip if you're going to dig small holes in your yard. It's also a good way to determine what supplies you'll need for your mini golf course.
-
Step 2
Determine how many holes you're going to have on your mini golf course. Unless you have a large backyard, you probably won't be able to make 18 holes. Decide whether you're simply going to have less holes or if you'll most things around your course during a round to create 18 holes of mini golf.
-
Step 3
Use rocks or stones to act as the borders of the different holes. If you can't find enough for your entire course, you could also use objects such as baseball bats or hockey sticks. The point is to create a solid line so that the golf ball will not fly off to another hole during your game.
-
Step 4
Place chairs as both obstructions and as something that can be used for bank shots on your mini golf course. Any outdoor chair should be hard enough to deflect a ball well. You may need to take the padding off of the chair depending on how the chair is made.
-
Step 5
Use cardboard boxes to create tunnels throughout your mini golf course. You could line the boxes with items such as blankets and pillows in order to make them more narrow. Remember to keep the flaps of the boxes down towards the ground so that the golf balls will travel through the boxes completely.
-
Step 6
Turn your tables into ramps that can be used on your mini golf course. You'll have to make sure that your golf balls can actually travel up the tables before setting them up in your backyard. You may have to place something in front of the table to make the ramps.
-
Step 7
Place piles of leaves and other such items strategically on your mini golf course to act as hazards. Leaves, glass clippings and even small thorns can be very difficult to hit a golf ball out of, which is precisely what you're hoping to achieve.
