Adobe After Effects is a great program for effects for video production

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with at least these requirements:
  • Intel Pentium 4 1.4GHz processor for DV (Pentium 4 3.4GHz processor supporting Hyper-Threading Technology for HDV; dual Intel Xeon 2.8GHz processors for HD; SSE2-enabled processor required for AMD sys
  • Adobe Software
  1. Step 1

    GETTING STARTED

1.Once you have installed the software by following the installation wizard, you are ready to start!

  2. Step 2

    CREATE NEW COMPOSITION

Open a new file and create a new composition. You will have the options to set the size and specifics of the new animation. By default the timeline will be relatively short. Depending on the size of your project you will want to set this accordingly.

Generally I suggest keeping these videos short, segmenting different parts as you need the elements. If you are creating an animated series, using a different timeline - in some instances a completely different project for different projects will become very useful and save a ton of load time on your harddrive.

  3. Step 3

    ANIMATE

Bringing different elements into the composition will allow you to animate and adjust once imported into the program. You can import files quickly from your composition box.

Once an item is imported you will be able to track changes you make on the TIMELINE, default location for the TIMELINE is at the bottom of your screen. Different effects can be activated by expanding and tampering with the keyframes in the timeline.

You can also adjust different effects from the effects control panel.

  4. Step 4

    EXPORT

That option is avaliable in the file menu. Be sure the specifications are set correctly. This could be a pain if wrong.

Generally I export files to AVI and compile/edit the complete project in Premier.

Note - while Aftereffects allows some Audio editing features, I do not recommend editing audio in this program. Use Adobe Audition, or even Premier for smoother and simplified audio editing.
