Feeding twins while maintaining a schedule is easier said than done (especially when a baby nurse is not affordable).

There are easy steps to feeding twins at the same time on your own. Establishing a routine, advance preparation, staying calm and being well organized are the key. This leaves enough time to sterilize bottles, complete babies laundry, organize clothing and get some sleep.

  1. Step 1

Select an armless comfortable chair to support your neck, shoulder & back when feeding the babies. Stay calm and do not answer the phone to maintain your concentration. You may also prefer to turn on some baby music while you are feeding.

Prepare for the feeding. Lay out supplies before sitting down. On a side table place the 2 feeding bottles, 2 Pacifiers, 2 Burping Cloth, 2 Bibs, one folded burping cloth to prop bottle as needed. Place a moses basket/bassinet (for newborns) or a car seat/lounge seat (for babies 3-months+) to your side. This is to place one baby in at the end of the feeding.

  3. Step 3

    Feeding on a pillow

Prepare to feed. Prepare babies lying alongside each other on a flat pillow (as shown in picture). The reason to use a pillow for newborn babies is because they are quite delicate. Placing them on a pillow on your lap allows you to react quickly in case of spit up or chocking. Support babies head up so that babies may make eye contact with the person feeding. Make sure both babies head is inclined (use extra burp cloth to prop up the heads)

  4. Step 4
    Burping

When finished, place one baby in the moses basket/bassinet or car seat/lounge seat so that you can prepare to get up (see picture). Clean up immediately so that you are prepared for the next feeding.
