So haircolor can be a complicated thing. With technology & information as available as it is today, the difficulty is becoming less. So to understand how haircolor works and making sure you choose the right product for your hair, please read on to understand the 4 categories of haircolor.

    Temporary colors are ones that are temporary. They only set on the surface of the hair. By design they are intended to rinse out of the hair. If you are using these and you get caught in the rain they will run- down your face. They can also rub off onto white shirts or pillow cases. They last from shampoo to shampoo.

  2. Step 2

    Semi-Permananent color last for 4-8 shampoos depending on the brand and the hair condition. These color are capable of making the hair darker, they do not lighten the hair.

  3. Step 3

    Demi-Permananet color lasts for 4-8 weeks but fade off slowly, sometimes leaving the hair slightly different than your natural color. These colors can lighten the hair 1-2 levels when heat is added (you set under a heat source to process- dryer, heating unit).

  4. Step 4

    Permanent colors are permananet. They are intended to last as long as the hair is on your head.
