How to create a Rosary Garden

For over 500 years the rosary has been significant in the symbolism of the Catholic faith. It is composed of five decades(groups of 10 Hail Marys) , and connected by prayers directed to Christ. Each decade represents what is referred to as the Mysteries. this is a wonderful way to keep this symbol alive, by honoring the rosary@, and creating a simple garden on your church' s lawn.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • 50 stepping stones
  • 4 plants:
  • 1. Joyful mysteries-white flowers
  • 2. Sorrowful mysteries- red flowers
  • 3. Glorious mysteries- yellow flowers
  • 4. Luminous mysteries- purple

Step1
First, a cross is placed.
Step2
Then, (always a square stone),to represent Our Father and stepping stones are place to represent the Hail Marys, corresponding to the usual layout of 5 decade beads. The flowers can be placed between the decades.
Step3
A statue of Mary should be placed as the focal point of the garden

Tips & Warnings

  • Signage should be used to explain the garden's symbolism.
  • A class of the youth ministry could take this on as a project.
  • Try to avoid the use of GOLDENROD, as many folks are highly allergic to this plant.
