Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Find out if your fees include tipping. At that point you would only be tipping for service that went above and beyond their duties.
Step2
Check with your shipping line to see a list of recommended tips. Estimate that you will tip 20% to 30% of the initial cost of the trip. Remembering the more prestige the line the more tipping will be required.
Step3
A porter that takes your bags at the pier should receive around $2 a bag or more for a truck or odd sized luggage.
Step4
Tipping a cabin steward well on the first day of the trip may help insure good service throughout the trip. Expect $20 to $30. For the remainder of the stay you may tip $3 to $5 a day.
Step5
When served any form of wine or adult beverage, tip 15% to 18%.
Step6
When using personal services such as getting a manicure or massage, tip about 15%. Tip more if service was above and beyond.
Step7
If your experience excellent service from the Cruise officers and Directors, be sure to send a personal thank you note. They are not allowed to receive tips.

on 6/24/2008 Great information, I am not sure about how to go about this so I will need to save this article. Kind of adds to the price of a cruise, t hat's for sure.

on 6/24/2008 Those that don't include tips as part of your fees should certainly be compensated well! Our dinner guy told us that he worked on average 16 hour days. We never ate in the dining room at lunchtime until he said that, and sure enough, there he was.

on 6/23/2008 This is valuable info; also be aware that some cruise lines automatically add gratuities daily. Be sure and keep an eye on your expenses or you could be double tipping. Thank you...
