Want beautiful long and lush hair, but don't want to pay expensive salon prices? You can get the same look for less money, more convenience and more comfort! Extensions can cost anywhere from $50 to thousands. Less expensive methods of putting in extensions are by glue (the most destructive), weave (last about 2-3 months), or clips. Caring for extensions can be time-consuming and a hassle. However, clips are the most convenient b/c you can put them in and take them out as you please, therefore they last longer than other methods! With clips, you don't have to sleep with them (uncomfortable and damaging to the extensions (due to drying and tangling) and your own hair (due to matting). With clips, you don't have to wash your extensions with your hair either. Clips are the most versatile, and quick and easy to put on!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • hair etensions on a track
  • clips
  • a needle
  • thread
  • scissors

Step1
You going to want to buy "human" hair as opposed to synthetic hair unless you want to sport barbie hair-- in appearance and texture! You can buy the hair online or at a store; however I advise that you go to a store unless you have experience with extensions and know what kind of hair to buy online. Search beauty stores online, and be sure to call ahead to make sure that they do infact sell "human hair", and what lengths they have, and if they are on a "track". Typically, extensions run from 10 in. to 24 in. and a track just means that the hair is attached to a garter-like material which attached to your hair. You can also use this opportunity to compare prices for the best-- however prices usually depend on the brand, and not the store.
Step2
Once at the store, ask an employee for help finding a good color match. Often your hair is light at the tip than the root so if you match it yourself you may buy hair too light. Extensions typically run in fair, good, and excellent quality-- the better quality brands are finer, more even in length and last longer. Take this opportunity to ask questions about the quality of the hair and how to care for it. Most places won't let you return hair, so make a wise and informed decision BEFORE you buy it.
Step3
Congratulations! Half the headache is over! Some tracks come with clips already attached, and those should work just fine. However, I find those clips for my more flimsy than clips sold seperately, the hair is often more expensive for less hair. If you want more control and a more secure attachment, ask whoever is helping you for clips which you can sew on yourself. Two tracks are usually suffiecent, and 3 (maybe 4) clips are suffiecient for each track-- so buy the clips with those numbers in mind. The clips are usually metal and come in different color in packs of 3 or 4.
Step4
Once home, measure the track around the circumference of your head. Use your hands to place the end of the track to where you want the it to begin on your head, from one side the the other-- then snip.
Step5
Use you needle and thread to sew the clip through the garter section of the extension and back through the designated holes the clip-- spacing them evenly apart, and on at each end. Doubling a track (placing 2 back to back) helps thicken a single track, and reduces the number of tracks you place throughout your head.
Step6
You can place the track virtually anywhere on your head-- as long as some hair is covering the attached part. Trim and blend the extensions to your hair where needed and Vala! Your hair is longer and/or thicker! Isn't it amazing how a little bit of hair makes a big difference?
