Laser Hair Removal is very painful. There are some steps you can take to make it tolerable.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Shave the area very well the morning of the treatment. Many places will tell you to shave 24 hours before the treatment. They want you to have a little bit of visible hair, so they can see exactly where to zap.
Although this may help them know exactly what areas need to be treated it also makes the treatment much more painful. Since the laser is burning the darkest areas it finds, the laser will be burning the hair at the top of the skin rather than the follicle where the hair grows deep in your skin.

  2. Step 2

If you need to show the laser hair removal practitioner where your hair is and isn't growing draw circles around the areas with white eye-liner. You want to use a white eye-liner pencil in case the laser happens to touch the pencil marks. If the laser zaps black lines you risk burning your skin.

  3. Step 3

Wear loose fitting cotton clothing. The drive home from the appointment will seem to take forever if you have on thick wool pants. Your treated areas are going to feel sunburnt. So keep your skin cool by wearing something light and loose.

  4. Step 4

Apply prescription numbing cream 1 hour before your appointment. You can only apply the cream to one small area, so choose the most sensitive area. Don't skimp - apply a thick layer of the cream. Wrap the area in plastic wrap and don't remove it until the appointment.

  5. Step 5

Take a pain reliever 30 minutes before your appointment.

  6. Step 6

Bring Aloe to the office! Use the aloe after each area of your body is treated. Apply lots of aloe.

  7. Step 7

Once you are home, keep applying aloe. Try to wait a few hours before you shower. When you finally shower, take a very cool shower and try not to use soap on the treated area. If you must soap the treated area, use a very mild soap.

  8. Step 8

Stay out of the sun! Although the skin will usually look normal in 24 hours, stay out of the sun for at least two weeks after your appointment.
