Step 1
Dill first appeared on the scene in the Mediterranean regions, Russia, and parts of Asia. The name of dill comes from the word “dylla.” Dylla is Norse in origin and means to sooth or calm. Throughout history dill has been used by herbalists for a variety of illnesses and conditions. Its use is uncommon in America today but European and Indian Herbalists still use it for several medical problems. Dill is most known here in North America for its use in pickles and in seafood recipes.
Making a really good dill dip at home is a simple and easy task. It will be very easy for you to create your own family tradition from the basic example listed below. -
Step 2
Ingredients:
4 ounces of fresh dill leaves chopped finely. Try and get a no name brand as they are the same quality as any brand name will be. Better yet, grow your own herbs and you will save a ton of money. Never pay for a name when you can be paying for more food when making a really good dill dip.
12 ounce package of cream cheese. I always use plain cream cheese so I can blend other flavors as I wish when making a really good dill dip.
1 cup of mayonnaise.
1 tablespoon of prepared horseradish
1 cup of sour cream.
1/2 tablespoon garlic powder, parsley, cayenne pepper.
4 ounces of minced onion. -
Step 3
Directions:
Put your dill leaves in a blender. Add the cream cheese and mix for a couple seconds for your really good dill dip. Then add your sour cream and mayonnaise, spices, horseradish, minced onion and mix thoroughly. Scoop out of the mixer and place in the bowl you intend to serve your really good dill dip. Chill for at least four hours.
Really good dill dip is best served with crackers or thick chips or veggie strips while chilled. You may want to sit your serving bowl on a bed of ice chips to keep it cool during your event. It makes a excellent party dip or luncheon appetizer. A fun side dish is a baked potato with a scoop of really good dill dip in place of plain butter or sour cream.
