How to choose an Apartment Building

There are numerous things to consider before you move into an apartment building. Some people seem to think that it is merely about location; well location isn't everything. Renting is about tenants. Your choice of apartment should not be a lottery. Our building has a commercial capacity water heating system, laundry, parking, and on site contractor (not handyman). Find all this in a building and your home!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
What is your purpose in moving to a new apartment building? Just planning a move to an ideal location is not adequate! Consider the average age of the neighbors.
Step2
What kind of building is it? Is it loud, quiet, dirty, run down?
Is it run by aged apartment owners and do they plan to make improvements; and when were the last improvements?
Step3
Check the provisions of tenancy. Will the bylaws support your lifestyle?
Does the plumbing work sufficiently? Is the shower head clogged? The calcium deposits need to be removed. Investigate when you are considering the unit.
Step4
Find out when trash pickup is. No one wants to live around fermenting smelly garbage that overflows and is not regularly emptied.
Step5
Check crime statistics: Go to Americas Most Wanted and investigate the community you are considering.
Step6
Deduce the worthiness of choosing the tentative living quarters. You may favor another choice.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never rent in an neglected building the management will not act responsibly.
