Step 1
Decide whether a person needs CPR. CPR should only be administered if the victim is not breathing. Signs to watch out for is whether the victim's chest is rising and falling, or you can put your ear to the victim's mouth and listen for sounds of breathing.
-
Step 2
If the victim is in need of CPR, you will want to administer the ABC's. The A stands for airway. You will want to make sure the victim's mouth is open for breathing to take place.
-
Step 3
For rescue breathing, place one hand on forehead and two fingers on chin.In order to properly position the mouth for rescue breathing, you will want to put a hand on the victim's forehead, and two fingers from your other hand on the victim's chin.
-
Step 4
After opening the victim's airwaves, you will give the victim 2 rescue breaths.
-
Step 5
Now it is time to administer the C in the ABC's, which stands for circulation. Chest compressions will be able to restore circulation. After the rescue breaths, you will administer 30 cycles of chest compressions immediately after the rescue breaths. You will want to administer these along the lines of the ribcage. They will be 1 1/2 inch to 2 inches deep for an adult.
-
Step 6
Repeat the cycle of 2 rescue breaths followed by 30 chest compressions. This will consist of about 80-100 chest compressions in a minute.
-
Step 7
Continue STEP 6 until help arrives.
