Nothing tastes quite as wonderful as homemade bread but ever notice after the bread has cooled, everyone in your family is no longer clamoring to grab a piece? That's usually because the crusts always seem to be harder than that on store bought bread. There is a trick to prevent hard crusts on homemade breads.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

After you have set your pan of bread dough in the oven, also set in a pan of water into the oven.

  2. Step 2

Remove bread promptly from pan after cooking. Allow to cool laying on a wire rack.

  3. Step 3

Apply light layer of butter to bread's crust.

  4. Step 4

Allow to cool most of the way.

  5. Step 5

Place fresh bread which is ever so slightly warm into a plastic storage bag.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do NOT place hot or very warm bread into a plastic bag. It must be cooled sufficiently to prevent condensation in your plastic bag. You want warmth but not heat.
