Things You'll Need:
- 4 oz. sweet almond oil
- 1 oz. beeswax
- 2 oz. water
- 10 drops Vitamin E oil
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
-
Step 1
Step one: The first step in making body lotion is to mix your oils and water in with your emulsifying wax. This will create the base of your lotion. The emulsifying wax is what keeps the water and oils from separating. Do this by melting the oil and the wax in a double boiler.
-
Step 2
Step two: The second step in making body lotion is to add your essential oils or fragrance oils. Essential oils will make your body lotion scented and can provide aromatherapy effects. Fragrance oils can also be used to give your lotion a nice scent.
-
Step 3
Step three: The third step is OPTIONAL, but can add a nice touch to your lotion. I prefer the color of un-pigmented lotion, but I thought I would include this step for those of you that like a little color. in making body lotion is to add your colorants. These colorants can be from a laboratory or they can come from natural sources. If you plan on marketing your handmade skin care products as natural skin care products then you will want to use natural coloring agents like paprika, mica, or oxides.

on 8/24/2009 OOPs you don't say how much EWax to use for this recipe.
Also, you need to let them know to not over heat the beeswax when melting it.
Suggestion: Use a glass bowl to whip this up.
Melt the beeswax, add the Sweet Almond Oil slowly and stir, add the emulsifying wax as it too has to be melted. Do not over heat, just melt and stir together. (When you overheat the oils damages the good properties in the oils, that absorb into the skin)Add in the distilled water and start stirring. As this cools it becomes milky in color and starts to incorporate into a lotion. Whip, let rest to cool, whip, let rest to cool etc. Add the fragrance oils or essential oils when this cools down.If the mixture is too hot it causes the FO and the EO to dissipate and not be as strong, and won't hold the aroma.
