The new craze in gaming is Nintendo's Wii. Perhaps even more new and exciting is their launch of Wii Fit, a game that allows you to perform body tests, weigh yourself and workout. If you are a gamer and need to get off the couch, creating a Wii Fit workout routine may be the thing for you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Wii Console
  • Wii Fit
  • A minimum of five minutes a day
Step1
Establish yourself as a mii on Wii Fit. Take the initial body tests and save all data. If you prefer to keep track of your progress on your own, write down you starting statistics. Otherwise, the game will keep track of everything for you.
Step2
If you have time on the first day, make yourself familiar with each category (Balance, Yoga, Aerobic and Strength Training). Within each category, you will find various games/moves that will enhance your abilities in each given category. Try each game/move at least once. Doing so will make your other sessions go that much faster, and you will be able to see results sooner.
Step3
Now that you are familiar with the various games/moves, establish a routine. First, do a body test daily. It will take five minutes and help you unlock features in the game. Second, set a weekly goal. For example, aim for 90 minutes a week. The time it takes to do the body test does not count toward your weekly goal. Use the games calculator to keep track of your time.
Step4
Use this sample to get an idea of what a week's routine may consist of: Monday: body test, basic step (aerobic category), two aerobic activities for 15 minutes, balance games for 10 minutes and two Yoga moves; Tuesday: body test; Wednesday: body test, aerobic activities for 10 minutes, strength moves for 20 minutes and two Yoga moves (preferably not the same from Monday); Thursday: body test; Friday: body test, aerobic activities for 20 minutes and three balance activities; Saturday: body test; Sunday: body test, aerobic activities for five minutes, strength activities for 15 minutes and Yoga moves for 15 minutes. This is a weekly goal of 90+ minutes.
Step5
To switch up your routine, make your weekly goals around what you would like to improve rather than minutes you want to workout. For example, make your weekly goal to improve your balance or strength. The greatest thing about Wii Fit is its ability to keep track of everything for you.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make yourself familiar with the charts so you know how to review your progress.
  • Click on the balance board on the treadmill when you are in the category screen. This will take you to the Ultimate Balance Test.
  • Follow the game's advice when scheduling breaks, and always drink plenty of water.
