If you feel like you've been lagging in the bedroom, you likely want to boost your sex drive. There are various reasons why your level of sexual desire may fluctuate and there are just as many treatment methods which can up your level of sexual desire. Here are some ways to boost your sex drive.

From Quick Guide: Sexual Health 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

See your doctor. You need to first determine that your reduced sex drive isn't a result of an underlying medical problem. Certain diseases or psychological issues can lead to reduced sexual desire. It's wise to first eliminate these possibilities.

  2. Step 2

Assess any medications you are currently taking. Read their possible side effects and see if decreased libido is on the list. Many medications such as hair loss prevention and acne medications can lead to a reduced sex drive. If your medication may be causing your issue, talk to your doctor about alternative medications.

  3. Step 3

Start and maintain a regular exercise regime. Countless studies have shown that regular fitness greatly contributes to higher sex drives in both men and women. Even if you can only exercise for a short period of time each day, make it a priority. Not only will it help boost your sex drive, but it will also greatly benefit your overall health.

  4. Step 4

Incorporate sexually stimulating foods into your diets. Various foods such as oysters, chocolate and cayenne pepper are known aphrodisiacs. Try these foods and see how they affect your sex drive. Make sure you are eating large enough quantities to have the desired effect.

  5. Step 5

Consider hormonal treatments. Testosterone is known to increase the sex drive of both men and women. If you'd like to try hormonal therapies, they are available in a variety of different formats, from pills and creams to sprays and patches. Talk to your doctor about hormonal treatments prior to taking them.

  6. Step 6

Try something new. If you feel like things have gotten boring with your partner, spice things up with some new positions or added foreplay. Sometimes, it just takes a little variety to boost your sex drive.

  7. Step 7

Talk to your doctor about prescription medications that can treat your unresponsive sex drive. Some people find they need to take prescription medication for a while to give their sex drive a needed boost. They are then able to ween off the medication over time.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you feel that your decreased libido may be linked to emotional or psychological issues, consider seeing a licensed counselor to discuss the problem.
  • Always consult your doctor prior to taking any medication.
  • Beware of phony companies that sell products claiming to boost your sex drive. Always confirm the validity of a company prior to giving your payment information.
