How to Make a Lesson Plan For Different Grades

Homeschooling is a great way to give your child an education. Beginning homeschooling moms often don't know where to start or how to develop the lesson plans their children need. They may even have more than one child to teach creating a need for several lesson plans in different grades. This task sounds difficult, but once you do it one time you can just repeat the process over and over until it becomes second nature.

Instructions

    • 1

Find out what your child's grade criteria are. You can do this easily if you have a computer. Just go to a search engine and type in "3rd grade criteria" or "5th grade requirements." You will have several sites listed that can give you a detailed list. Take that list and purchase a curriculum that covers all of those requirements.

    • 2

Now take one sheet of paper for each subject your child has to do. You will most likely have one for math, history, science, language arts and Bible. Write the subject name on the top of each paper.

    • 3

Take each book and find out how many pages the book is. Then you need to divide that number by 180 which is how many days you need to home school for. If your book is 300 pages, than you need to cover basically two pages per day to finish the book by the end of the year.

    • 4

Look over the first two pages in the book and see what the pages are about. Note any important facts or information your child is going to need to remember. Each lesson you plan will consist of the next two pages.

    • 5

Create your lesson plan. Write what day it is at the top, which pages you are covering that day, and the important facts you wrote down. If you know of any supplements or craft projects that go with that topic than add that to your lesson plan. The Internet is a great place to find crafts and supplemental material. If your lesson is on volcano's and how they work, type in "Volcano craft" and you will get several to choose from.

Repeat these steps to form lessons for each day. Do it for each grade you are going to teach.

Tips & Warnings

  • Creating daily lesson plans is a great way to make sure your child is staying on target for the year. It also saves time when you don't have to scramble at the last minute to find a project to do.

  • Don't think you need supplemental material or projects to add to your lesson plan every day. One project or supplemental addition per chapter is fine.
