1
Ask your company's HR professionals what the company guidelines are in terms of attire. This may vary from department to department. Make sure you understand what your title entails in terms of dress. Find out if jeans are allowed. Ask if the clothing environment is casual or formal. Do not be afraid to ask questions.

2
Look around. Even though you might have consulted the HR department, nothing is better than taking a look at what your other coworkers are doing in terms of attire. Be vigilant. Pay attention to hair, clothing, makeup and nails. Is your coworker wearing bright red lipstick or more muted colors? Is hair up or usually down? Ask yourself questions and take notes.

3
Think about what makes you comfortable. Ask yourself what kind of attire makes you feel like you should be doing your job properly. Find out what you feel most comfortable in, whether it is skirts or khaki pants. The more comfortable you feel, the better you will end up doing your job.

4
Ask friends in similar fields. If you are going to work at a legal firm and have a friend who also works in a similar environment, ask them what they wear at their job. It's always good to get outside opinions. Show your friend your planned outfit for your first day on the new job and ask them if they think it is appropriate. Getting an objective outside opinion can do wonders.

Tips & Warnings
With most jobs, the key word to remember is "neat." Aim for being tidy, clean, groomed and modest. These are words to live by, and you usually can't go wrong if you follow these simple guidelines.
Never walk into a new job wearing something without knowing the regulations and rules of your company. You could be at risk of getting fired.

Very good tips. As someone who interviews potential candidates for positions, I find it very annoying when the person comes in for the interview dressed as if they were going out with their friends. Keep away from anything revealing, no cleavage, no tight pants, dress to impress. It doesn't matter if you are applying for a job at a local theme park or your corner fast food joint...dress nicely! -
