Learn how to cut your pets nails

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nail clippers/ or animal clippers
  1. Step 1

Check your pets nails to make sure they are long enough to cut

  2. Step 2

If you look at the nail you will see the quick (the vein inside he nail is known as the quick) Determine the appropriate amount that needs to be clipped.

  3. Step 3

While holding the animal securely, make sure they are calm, clip the tip of the nail off AVOIDING the quick.
Don't cut right at the end off the quick or the nail will bleed, if this does happen there is no need to be alarmed, it will bleed but it is very common and will not hurt your pet.

  4. Step 4

Start with the front paws working from one side to the other, don't forget the dew claws!

Tips & Warnings
  • It is always best to just cut a small bit if you are new to this.
  • If your pet is not calm, try by clipping just one nail a day. They will get used to this over time.
  • Afterwards always give your pet a treat, if you make it a good experience your pet will comply much quicker.
  • If you cut to much and the nail does bleed you should have some flour or baby powder near by. Put a good amount on the bleeding nail and apply slight pressure. It may look like a lot of blood but do not worry, the bleeding will stop quickly.
