This simple stitch requires the basic knitting knowledge of how to do a knit and a purl stitch. The seed texture stitch creates a beautiful textured look to any piece without a lot of effort.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yarn
  • Knitting needles
  1. Step 1

    Choose the yarn you want to work with and needles that match the weight of your yarn (see yarn packaging for needle size suggestions).

  2. Step 2

    Cast on your stitches in multiples of 4 plus 1 in your preferred method of casting on. For example: 5 x 4 = 20 + 1 = 21 stitches.

  3. Step 3

    Row 1: (Right Side) Purl 1, *Knit 3, Purl 1, repeat from * to endRow 2: PurlRow 3: KnitRow 4: PurlRow 5: Knit 2, Purl 1, *Knit 3, Purl 1, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, Knit 2Row 6: PurlRow 7: KnitRow 8: Purl

  4. Step 4

    Repeat these 8 rows until your piece reaches desired length.

  5. Step 5

    Bind off, preferably using the basic bind-off.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is a fun stitch to use to spice up a project that would call for your basic stockinette stitch, such as a scarf, blanket or hat.
