How to Make Lip Cream

Mother Nature can take a wicked toll on our lips, leaving them dry, cracked and chapped. This simple recipe can help reverse the damage and leave your lips kiss-worthy and smooth. Read on to learn how to make lip cream.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Stove
  • A double boiler
  • A mixing spoon
  • Measuring spoons
  • 2 tbsp. of beeswax
  • 2 tbsp. of castor oil
  • 1 tbsp. of anhydrous lanolin
  • 1 tso, of spirits of camphor
  • 1 glass jar (3 oz.) with a tight fitting lid
Step1
Melt 2 tbsp. of beeswax in a double boiler.
Step2
Add 1 tbsp. of anhydrous lanolin and 2 tbsp. of castor oil to the beeswax and blend the mixture thoroughly over low heat.
Step3
Remove the double boiler from the heat and set aside for approximately five minutes until the contents have cooled.
Step4
Pour 1 tsp. of spirits of camphor into the mixture and stir until completely blended.
Step5
Transfer the mixture into a 3 oz. glass jar with a tight lid.
Step6
Smooth the lip cream over your lips as needed and especially when you have just come in from outdoors.

Tips & Warnings

  • All of the ingredients in this lip cream can be purchased at a pharmacy or health store.
  • If you don't have a double boiler, an easy substitution is to mix everything in a small saucepan that is placed in a large stove top pan that has been filled with 2 to 3 inches of water.
  • Companies such as The Container Store offer a wide variety of small glass jars that will be suitable for storing your new lip cream.
  • This mixture also makes a nice gloss to apply lightly over your regular lipstick.
