Things You'll Need:
- Confidentiality agreement
- Lawyer
-
Step 1
Get protection. If your business idea is completely unique you need to get legal protection so that if it does get stolen you have proof that will stand up in court that you are the sole creator of that business idea. Visit your local patent and trademark office or check it out online. Getting your business idea patented or trademarked is the best way to protect your idea.
-
Step 2
Keep quiet. You might be excited about your business idea and want to tell someone, but the easiest way to protect your business idea is to keep it a secret for as long as you can. Don't tell people about your business idea. Your family members, co-workers, and friends might seem innocent, but they can easily steal your business idea and use it.

Step 3
Get a signature. Now, there will be periods where your business idea has to be outed. This is where you need a non-disclosure agreement. The agreement will state that the person who signs it agrees to keep everything to themselves. This could be a builder, a writer or a business partner. Get that signature before you discuss anything.
