Dandruff is a tenacious and irritating scalp problem that is very difficult to cure because it can be caused by so many different things. Some people believe that it is brought on by stress, others find that simply changing shampoos will do the trick. Others try treatment after treatment with no success at all. If you have exhausted medical remedies for your itchy, flaky scalp, consider trying some tested home remedies instead. Applying vegetable infusions directly to the scalp has been shown to alleviate and sometimes eliminate dandruff entirely.

Boil the beets and carrots. Once the water has reached a rolling boil, dump the beets and carrots into the pot and cover it. You can reduce the heat slightly. Cook the vegetables for at least 20 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Strain out the vegetables. You can eat them or throw them away. Catch the water in the plastic container.

  4. Step 4

Massage the vegetable water into your scalp just before bed. Use the tips of your fingers to work the water into your scalp. You should let your hair dry overnight with the vegetable water still in it.

  5. Step 5

Shower as usual. This will rinse out the vegetable water and leave your hair silky and shiny as well as less full of flakes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some dietitians believe that a temporary all-fruit diet can eliminate dandruff. Consult a professional before beginning this so that you do not become malnourished.
  • Rubbing the cut end of a raw carrot on the flaky patches of your scalp is alleged to have some positive results, but there are no clinical studies available.
  • If your dandruff worsens, spreads or becomes crusty or bloody, consult a dermatologist immediately.
