Dirt stains on suede can ruin a nice pair of shoes, retiring your favorite loafers to the back of your closet forever. Dry cleaning may not have been able to lift the nasty stains, and washing them in water would certainly ruin the material, but you can easily rid your suede shoes of dirty blemishes without destroying the smooth finish. Here’s a quick and easy way to gently buff out stains and smooth over the surface once the marks are lifted.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Art gum eraser
  • Sandpaper or emery board

Step1
Allow dirt marks to dry completely if it’s a muddy stain or otherwise wet.
Step2
Rub the dirt mark vigorously with the art gum eraser. As the stain lifts, the texture of the suede will become a little ruffled. Don’t let this alarm you.
Step3
Buff the area very lightly with the emery board or sandpaper to smooth out the frazzled area where the stain was lifted.
