How to Make a Travelers Packing List
Whether you are planning a two week cruise or a two day business trip, it pays to make up a master traveler's packing list ahead of time. The master list is meant to include everything you could possibly need for any and all trips. From the list you can pack for different trips just by choosing items suitable to a particular itinerary. Set up your traveler's packing list using a spreadsheet on your computer or simply write the list on a piece of paper. Create columns with headings for each packing category (see Steps 2 through 10). Under each heading, list every item you might need for any trip.

List cosmetics and toiletries: Dental supplies; shaving supplies; deodorant; cleansers; make-up; hair care items; feminine products; medications (including birth control and vitamins); first aid; shower supplies; sunscreen; nail care; cotton balls; moisturizer and mirror.

List paperwork and documents: Passport (plus a copy); travel tickets; itinerary schedules; hotel addresses and phone numbers; maps; address book; emergency contacts; insurance information; business cards; work related documents; list of wallet contents and copy of traveler's packing list (so you don’t leave anything behind when packing for home).

List foundations: Underwear; undershirts; pajamas; robe; socks; slips; bras and hose.

List casual clothes: Tee shirts; tank tops; shorts; jeans; sweatshirts; casual pants and polo shirts; athletic wear; swimsuit and cover-up.

List dressy clothes: Suits; jackets; dress shirts; ties; dresses; skirts and blouses.

List footwear: Athletic shoes; dressy shoes; walking shoes; sandals; flip flops and slippers.

List outerwear: Jackets; coats; rainwear; scarf; sweaters; gloves; hat and umbrella.

List accessories: Belts; shawl; eyeglasses; jewelry; handkerchiefs; purses; money belt; backpack; plastic bags and shopping tote.

List miscellaneous: Luggage tags; reading material; house keys; laptop; cell phone; camera; music player; travel clock; chargers; sporting and camping equipment.

These are really good tips. Lots of times we get so excited about a great trip that some of the common sense things go unattended to until you're in the airport with no passport or on the beach with no sunscreen...lol -
